Import bans; red lines in Iranian customs laws

In 2025, import bans are based on several axes:

• Goods contrary to Islamic values and national security
• Similar goods produced domestically (according to the policy of supporting national production, the import of some domestically produced products is prohibited or restricted)
• Luxury and non-essential goods (such as special cars, some cosmetics, non-essential items in the country’s currency conditions)
• Dual-use or strategic goods whose import requires special security permits.

Based on the circulars and announcements of the Headquarters for Combating Smuggling of Goods and Currency, an updated list of prohibitions is announced in the Iranian Customs system and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is recommended that importers refer to these sources before taking any action.
