Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia’s plans to facilitate transit and increase trade volume

Ebrahim Naqdi, Deputy Head of Legal Affairs and Supervision at Iran Customs, said at the meeting: “This meeting has been planned in the form of a working group with the aim of adopting solutions to increase trade exchanges and simplify and streamline procedures, especially in transit procedures.”

Naqdi said: “Given the importance of the North-South Corridor, increasing the volume of trade exchanges with the cooperation of the three countries is a goal, and this will be possible by simplifying procedures and increasing the acceptance of trucks by the Azerbaijani side.”

He pointed out that currently, an average of about 500 trucks are passing through the Astar border, adding: “Considering the existing conditions and facilities, with increased trilateral interactions, the number of trucks passing through the Astar border will increase significantly.

Dr. Ebrahim Naqdi, Deputy Minister of Legal Affairs and Supervision and Head of the Iranian Delegation, stated: “In this tripartite meeting, we are trying to adopt joint solutions to increase the number of trucks passing through the Astara border.”

Regarding the increase in the volume of trade exchanges with Iran, he also stated: Facilitating customs procedures, especially in transit procedures, will speed up customs procedures and increase the volume of exchanges

He said: “The electronic exchange of relevant information between the three countries also plays an important role in facilitating trade and increasing the volume of trade exchanges.”

Fuad Mammadov, Deputy Head of the General Directorate of Customs of Azerbaijan and Head of the Azerbaijani delegation, referred to the importance of the North-South Corridor and said at the meeting: “Given the existing capacities in this corridor, it is possible to increase the volume of trade between the three countries through joint cooperation.”
